APPROACH

I consider any design holistically and work to communicate ideas in a relatable way. I work to create simple concepts built using tried and tested construction methods.

I utilise forms and materials typical to a sites context; to connect with place and blend or complement existing buildings and the surrounding environment.

Floor planning is a response to site and a clients practical spatial requirements.

We work together through the design process to create a home that responds to local climate and captures the unique views and aspects of any given site.

Overall, my aim is to make the process easy and enjoyable and something that contributes to the experience of creating a new home.

SUSTAINABILITY

Our industry continues to evolve and better understand the actions to take in creating more sturdy, resilient and energy efficient homes.

Consideration towards building more sustainably is embedded in my approach. Starting with conserving all possible from existing buildings; considering the adaptive re-use or re-purposing old structures and reclaiming material resources where demolition is required.

I understand the benefits of time honored passive design principals and designing for the climate of a specific site. This means observing solar orientation in locating window openings to harness the suns energy and prevailing breezes for natural heating and cooling.

When produced sustainably, timber remains the ultimate renewable building resource. Maximising the use of timber and timber based products in a buildings structure can lower the carbon foot print of any new build.

I consider a buildings performance from its material layup and how best to utilise material properties to advantage. For example utilising concrete or brick for thermal mass, improving insulation values or adding performance glazing.

To build for longevity, I advocate the use of robust, serviceable products and materials that last, not things that are the latest trend.

The journey of creating a unique building is never linear. My five step process is designed to provide a flexible framework for any residential project.

Between client, our valued consultants and builders, we collaborate through this process and ensure the best possible outcome for any given budget.

The guide is informative and walks you through my design approach and what to expect with each project stage. It explains the in’s and out’s between Council, private certifiers, DA’s and CDC’s, with tips on what else to allow in planning your new build or renovation project.
